About the Item
Stunning Art Deco signed Moser purple Oroplastic vase in the shape of a wine glass (- a rare shape -the glass is too thick to be a drinking vessel). The oroplastic design features battling Amazons with shields and full length spears - This design was originally called Fipop -and was probably the first oroplastic design pattern -unusually this example has original polychrome staining in the design.
Oroplastic glass was first created by Leo Moser (Ludwig's son) circa 1920, a hybrid of neoclassical design and the new Art Deco look, it combined cameo/acid techniques with inlaid gilding. Once it became established many other glass houses copied the technique. To counter this competition Moser bought in a number of great designers (Such as Rudolf Wels) to produce new variant Oroplastic designs. Moser was for most of the 20th century the most famous Bohemian glassworks

View AllBohemian Art Nouveau Harrach Purple to Clear Wheel cut shaped Glass Vase, 1900
By Harrach Glassworks
Located in Worcester Park, GB
A vibrant Art Nouveau purple to clear intaglio cut Harrach vase with rare shaped 'cut-out' top outlining the higher buds. Depicting Flowering Lilies highlighted with gilding. This style of intaglio cut vase (with cut-out top) was taken by Harrach to the 1900 Paris exhibition. Very unusually this vase has stylised geometric cuts radiating from the base.
Harrach has been the backbone of Bohemian, and possibly European, glass for the last 300 years. It proudly celebrates its tri-centenary in 2012. Before Ludwig Moser was allowed to have his own Glassworks he, like almost everyone else in the region, bought his blanks from Harrach. In fact we will probably never know how much glass, supposedly made my other great glass makers of Europe, were in fact made and finished in the Harrach Glassworks. We do know that vast ranges of Legras was made by Harrach, probably under licence and possibly the majority of the glass we think of as Fratelli Tosso...
