Émile Gallé Art Nouveau Cameo Vase With Hydrangea Decor, Nancy France 1906/14
About the Item
Vase in the shape of a beaker with a straight wall and flush stand, colourless glass with reddish-yellow coloured powder fusions, overlay in moss green and violet on the outside, hydrangea decoration etched in various stages and individual flowers on the inside, frosted surfaces.
Cameo signature 'Gallé' on the wall in the lower area between the flowers
Hand-made Cameo Glass:
Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; at the end of the 19th century, Émile Gallé further developed this glass art, created Art Nouveau designs and employed a large factory in Nancy.
