About the Item

A stunning quality French Galle or Daum attributed hand-blown art glass jug decorated with a wading bird amidst reeds and dating from around 1920. The brown tinted glass jug stands on narrow rounded base with a central polished pontil mark and the narrower lower section graduates into a wider round bulbous shaped body rising to a narrow-pinched neck and wide trumpet opening with shaped pouring spout. A looped handle is applied to the upper body of the jug. The jug has a textured translucent finish, and the body is applied with a large wading bird standing one leg in water amidst reeds. The scene is finely detailed with a richly applied gilded finish with similar quality gilding applied to the handle and around the spout. The quality of the jug is exceptional and certainly that of Galle or Daum however it is not marked. Provenance: acquired in the UK Art Market. Offered in good condition with natural age wear to the foot rim.
