Loetz Crete Phaenomen 85/3780 glass vase made exclusively for Bacalowitz c1902
About the Item
Fabulous example of a Loetz Phaenomen crete (green based) vase ref 85/3780 made c1902. The green vase is covered in Silver-blue feathering, which has been hand tooled to give a wavy look -note the tooling marks leave minor 'frit' deposits (black marks) on the surface of the vase especially on the shoulders (see first few images) this is usual in the production of all such pieces. This vase is from the famous Loetz Phaenomen range -(the best range from the greatest Bohemian glass makers of all time). Vases in the Phaenomen range were made in very small quantities, in this case probably one of only 100 max in this colour and shape. The 85 in the code tells us the design was made exclusively for Bacalowitz the famous Viennese retail shop (the vase is unsigned - which, as it was made for an Austrian shop, is correct -as only pieces made and destined for the USA were ever signed)
