Rare and unusual Bohemian Loetz Crete Rusticana with Threads glass vase c 1899
About the Item
A fabulous Art Nouveau Loetz 'Crete' (green) Rusticana with Threads vase -Loetz. The Rusticana décor (instantly recognised by the hand tooled wood knot - like body markings) is quite common, but the décor 'Rusticana with threads' which are hot applied, is exceptionally rare. It was only ever done in Crete (green) and the threads appear amber (when held up to the light), but when seen in reflective light have a striking bright blue iridised surface finish. This unusual décor is well documented.
The hot applied threads are all in excellent condition with no damage. There are a few minor internal black frit markings and bubbles in the body of the glass mentioned only for completeness
Loetz was and still is probably the most famous and most collected of the great Bohemian glass makers.
