Bohemian Loetz Candia Papillon glass vase with handles and silver overlay c1898

About the Item

A fabulous Art Nouveau Loetz 'Crete' (blue/gold on green) Papillon (Butterfly wing) vase with applied handles and fine silver overlay. This iridised finish was first created by Loetz in 1898 and this is an early example. The fine silver overlay covers the top and bottom rims, the entire handles, and a spectacular and intricately engraved flowering plant to the front. These vases were commissioned from Loetz and then the silver overlay was added in the USA (hence the mark Stirling) Loetz was and still is probably the most famous and most collected of the great Bohemian glass makers. The Silver overlay is in perfect condition -with no losses or raised areas - and is marked Sterling Silver on the bottom rim
