WINE GLASS DESIGN OF FORM AND DECORATION: OTTO PRUTSCHER MADE BY: MEYR'S NEFFE (= NEPHEW), ADOLF ON BEHALF OF E. BAKALOWITS & SÖHNE (= SONS) / WIEN (= VIENNA) Glass with cylindric bowl which is stunningly decorated with carved ornaments: These are of round as well as of square form type, being arranged like borders running along in horizontal direction - for this reason causing this glass item's very special appearance. The bowl is attached to high dainty stalk with broad foot. This item is made of casing glass - it is colourless glass with cobalt blue layer. SIZE: height: 8.66 inches / 22.0 cm diameter at mouth: 2.95 inches / 7.5 cm diameter at foot: 3.46 inches / 8.8 cm made circa 1907 BIBLIOGRAPHY: Museum für Angewandte Kunst (= Museum of Applied Arts) / Wien (Vienna), Archive of Viennese Workshop (= Wiener Werkstätte), vol. I, 1961, stock number B.I.32066c Waltraud Neuwirth, Glas (= Glass) 1905-1925, Wien/Vienna 1985, page 200, number 182 / page 201, number 183, number 184 Bakalowits Firm was founded in 1845 by Elias Bakalowits. The company became very successful in providing crystal as well as lighting for palaces ad other notable buildings. The original store was located on the Hoher Markt. His grandson Ludwig Bakalowits received an imperial warrant and became a purveyor to the imperial court in Vienna / he loved fine arts and had an intensive contact to well-known artists such as Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann, Otto Prutscher, Otto Wagner, Joseph Maria Olbrich etc. who made many designs on behalf of Bakalowits which has been in business for over 165 years. [WIKIPEDIA] OTTO PRUTSCHER (1848 - 1949) WAS ARCHITECT AND DESIGNER. HE WAS PUPIL OF JOSEF HOFFMANN / AS FROM 1902 PRUTSCHER WAS TEACHER AT VIENNESE HIGH SCHOOL OF GRAPHIC ARTS (Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt at Vienna) / AS FROM 1902 UNTIL 1938 PRUTSCHER TAUGHT AT VIENNESE SCHOOL OF APPLIED ARTS (WIENER KUNSTGEWERBESCHULE). He worked on behalf of Wiener Werkstaette, additionally he was member of Viennese Kuenstlerhaus in period of 1922-41 and was active for the magazine Interieur / finally he had participated in numerous exhibitions.
