Puiforcat (Hermes) - 169pc. French 950 Sterling Silver Flatware Set (Noailles)
By Puiforcat
Located in Wilmington, DE
Direct from Paris, A Superb 169pc. 19th Century 950 Sterling Silver Flatware Set with 19 Serving Pieces (Noailles Pattern) by the World's Premier French Silversmith "Puiforcat" Currently Owned by Hermes, circa early 1900s. The history of French silver-smithing is rich and diverse, with numerous artisans and firms that have contributed to its enduring legacy. Among these, Puiforcat stands as a testament to the craftsmanship and artistry that has defined this industry for generations. Established in the early 19th century, Puiforcat has consistently represented the pinnacle of French silverwork. The Puiforcat legacy began in 1820, when Emile Puiforcat founded his eponymous silversmith workshop in Paris. Emile was inspired by the rich heritage of French craftsmanship and sought to revive the art of silver-smithing, which had faced decline during the tumultuous period of the French Revolution. Puiforcat was instrumental in reviving and elevating the art, offering not only functional silverware but also beautifully designed and meticulously crafted pieces that were celebrated for their aesthetic and utilitarian value. Puiforcat quickly established a reputation for artistic innovation. Emile Puiforcat's meticulous attention to detail and his commitment to excellence pushed the boundaries of what could be achieved with silver. He introduced innovative designs that blended classicism with modernity, which appealed to the evolving tastes of the 19th-century clientele. Puiforcat's quality and artistry soon attracted the attention of the French aristocracy. The company received royal commissions from the court of King Louis-Philippe, cementing its status as a premier silversmith. At the Exposition Universelle held in Paris in 1889, Puiforcat was awarded a gold medal for its outstanding silver creations. This recognition affirmed the company's place at the forefront of French silver-smithing. In 1993, the house of Puiforcat became a part of the Hermès Group, a move that further elevated its status in the world of luxury craftsmanship. Hermès, renowned for its commitment to artisanship and fine materials, was a natural fit for Puiforcat. Under the ownership of Hermès, Puiforcat has continued to thrive and innovate, maintaining its reputation as a premier silversmithing brand. In recognition of the exceptional collaboration between Puiforcat and Hermès, the brand received the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris in 1994. This award celebrated the excellence in design and craftsmanship that the union of these two iconic brands had brought forth. Antique French Mirrored Ormolu Surtout de Table Center Piece, circa 1900
Located in Dallas, TX
Known in France as a surtout de table, this mirrored centerpiece is from circa 1900. The 13 ¾ inch diameter mirror is surrounded by a tripartite bronze base, which has been gilded using an ormolu technique, which is a coating of finely ground gold. Notice the bright color of the ormolu, indicating that a high-karat gold was used (total diameter is 17 1/2 inches). The edge of the mirrored section is surrounded by a thin ring of highly detailed grapevines. At the bottom edge of the base is another cluster of grapes, with much larger leaves. The second ring is interrupted on three occasions by a lobed leaf, each terminating in a thick, volute foot. Surtout de tables were often gilded or silvered or surrounded by exotic metals, making them highly sought-after furnishings. Typically, they were used as ornamental centerpieces on formal dining tables, allowing candlesticks and serving pieces to be displayed, although our mirrored ormolu surtout de table...

French Louis XV Carved Pine 18 Wine Bottles "Cave a Vin" Display Cabinet
Located in Dallas, TX
This narrow, antique wine storage cabinet was crafted in western France using old timber. Built of pine wood, the tall and thin cabinet sits on four small scroll feet under a scalloped apron. The piece features six shelves embellished with decorative carvings and each row holds three bottles, for a total of 18. The wine storage is decorated with the words “Petrus Cave” printed on the front. The cabinet is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina; it would make a useful addition to a kitchen or wine cellar without taking up too much room. Although the wines of Pomerol have never been classified, Pétrus is widely regarded as the outstanding wine of the appellation. Pétrus leads a duo of Pomerol estates in extreme prices, along with Le Pin, that rank consistently among the world's most expensive wines. Indeed, a 750ml bottle of Pétrus wine...
