About the Item
A large and exceptional aesthetic movement copper ale jug designed by renowned designer Christopher Dresser for Richard Hodd & Sons dating from around 1880. The tall stylish ale jug has a teardrop shaped body with a wide rounded base and stands raised on three large ball feet with a simple loop handle applied to the side and with a large pouring spout attached to the top rim. The jug has a simple linear pattern applied around the body and the jug has makers marks to the base. The jug also bears the mark of silversmith Stephen Smith who probably sold Dresser designs from his shop.
