Doulton Lambeth Faience Floral Painted Jug Signed
About the Item
A large and impressive Doulton Lambeth Faience floral painted jug or pitcher by a listed but unidentified artist and dating from around 1880. The tall and elegantly shaped jug stands on bell shaped pedestal foot with a slender bulbous shaped body with a narrow long neck and large shaped and raised pouring spout with a looped and shaped handle extending from the top and resting on the upper body of the jug. The jug is hand painted with large flowering blooms on leafy stems painted in tones of yellow, brown, black and green against a pale light blue and red ground with reddy brown glazes applied to the foot rim, handle and partitioning rings between the various sections of the jug. The jug has both impressed and printed Doulton Lambeth Faience marks to the base and is numbered 2093 and 102 and has various artist marks, some of which are recorded as unidentified. A stunning and finely painted example nonetheless.
Provenance: From the collection of the late Dr Ronald Austin of Swansea and acquired by a Belgium based collector from the UK Art Market.
The jug is in good condition and displays well.
