Doulton Lambeth Pair Art Nouveau Beaded Floral Jugs by Eliza Bowen

About the Item

A delightful and stylish pair Art Nouveau Doulton Lambeth handled jugs with stylized floral designs attributed to Eliza Bowen and dating from around 1905. The stoneware jugs stand on narrow round unglazed foot rims with slightly recessed bases and are of wide round bulbous shape with tall narrow necks and round bowl-shaped tops with shaped pouring spouts. Flat topped strap handles are applied to the side. The body of the jugs are decorated with incised petal shaped designs with a beaded border around the central body enclosing large, stylized flower heads in white slip outline. The jug is hand decorated in tones of blue, brown and white set against a mustard-colored ground. Both have impressed makers marks to the base and are numbered 2867. Both have LB monogram marks incised to the bases which we have attributed to Miss LE Bowen who is also recorded as Eliza Bowen. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
