George Jones Hand Painted and Gilded Hot Water Jug or Pitcher

About the Item

This very attractive, good quality porcelain hot water jug by George Jones & Co. is decorated with alternating flutes of hand painted roses and cobalt blue. It has then been finished off with delicate hand gilding. The shanked and gilded handle also adds further interest to the piece. Cleverly the jug can be used with the pewter lid inserted, or when the lid is taken out, a nice band of gilding to the rim further enhances the decoration. The shape design (registration number 225065) was issued to George Jones & Co. on the 5th of January 1894 and the pattern number is A1543. It stands 145 mm (5.75 inches) high to the top of the handle on the pewter lid and has a diameter of 122 mm (4.75 inches). It is in excellent condition with minimal, if any, wear of the gilding. C1895.
