French Folk Art. Huge monoxyl pitcher olive wood. Free-form and organic design. Fantastic patina. Measures: - Height 27 cm / 10,63'' - Width 14 cm / 5,51'' - Depth 18 cm / 7'' Alexandre Noll style. Sign under the base (to be clarified). Good condition. France circa 1950s. Alexandre Henri Noll, son of concierges, from a family originally from Alsace, after having been a weaver and bank employee, created furniture and abstract sculptures in exotic wood for 50 years. He creates unique furniture made in direct size in different types of solid wood. He acquires an intuitive science of wood, a unique polish, the timely use of its veins and a natural mastery of curves and volumes. In 1937, he presented vases, pitchers and dishes carved from solid wood and polished at the International Exhibition. He regularly participated in the Salon des Artistes Decorateurs, of which he was a member in 1939, then in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles from 1946. In the 1950s, he began sculpture. He exhibited in 1964 at the La Demeure gallery, in 1966 at the Messine gallery in Paris and disappeared four years later. It is represented at the Museum of Modern Art in the city of Paris as well as at the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon. An exhibition of his works took place in Reims at the end of 1973.
