A vintage French Majolica glazed Absinthe water pitcher formed as a rooster, St. Clément, circa 1940-1950. The Gallic rooster, in French: le coq gaulois, is an unofficial national symbol of France. This earthenware Barbotine majolica pitcher is brightly glazed in red, orange and shades of green. His tail feathers form the handle, his mouth is the spout. Amazing color on this Classic mold. A Wedgwood majolica glazed Grape Leaf Pitcher, date marked 1935. Decorated in the round, a raised pattern showing bunches of purple grapes, greens leaves, and brown vining branches. The interior is finished in a deep yellow ochre, a brown applied handle. This mold is most often seen glazed in all green or all white, the multicolored version is more difficult to come by. Attributed to Minton pottery in Staffordshire, England, a scarce sized set of majolica glazed pitchers in the Palissy style, circa 1870s. The Aesthetic Period pitchers are molded with a raised nut vine pattern with leaves in light and dark green, and closed buds. The vine handle is ‘held’ in place with green shoots, the tight buds are glazed in cream encased in light spring green leaves. The body is finished in an iridescent brown, the interior in a beautiful turquoise. A turquoise glazed underside.
