About the Item

A fine Meissen porcelain fish tray with its rare strainer. By the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. In the Neu Brandenstein Relief pattern. Originally designed by Johann Joachim Kandler & Johann Aberlein in 1741 on the commission of Freidrich August from Brandenstein. With a trelliswork border and floral spray & insect decoration throughout. This is the only fish tray with its matching strainer that we have had in 30 years in the business. Simply an amazing find! Date: Late 19th or early 20th century Overall condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition details: There are some tiny spots of fritting to the pierced openings of the strainer, some very minor rubbing to the gold. Otherwise, there are some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Meissen Pattern: Neu Brandenstein Relief Marks: Marked to the base with a blue crossed swords Meissen Facotry mark. Impressed numbers 'U27B' & '128'. The strainer also has an impressed Neu Brandenstein mark. Measurements: Tray: Length: ca. 21 3/8 in. Width: ca. 10 1/8 in. Height: ca. 1 5/8 in. Strainer: Length: ca. 20 in. Width: ca. 7 3/8 in. Beautiful flower painting, possible done outside the factory at the Giles studio in London, or perhaps at the Chelsea studio by a painter who had previously worked there. The tulip, heartease, and others look very Giles. One of the most distinctive features of Chelsea porcelain is its intricate floral painting, which often featured detailed, lifelike renditions of flowers and other botanical subjects.
