About the Item
Exceptional Emilia Castillo porcelain and pure silver platter, dated 1994 and hand signed Emilia Castillo, M.R., Mexico, #13. Measuring 17 inches wide, this museum-quality piece showcases Castillo’s signature aesthetic: nature-inspired motifs brought to life in silver over richly glazed porcelain.
The platter features intricately detailed silver parrots and branches, set against a luminous cobalt-blue background, creating a striking interplay of form and texture. Castillo’s works are widely collected for their fusion of tradition and modern luxury design, often displayed in both private collections and high-end interiors.
Emilia Castillo carries forward the legacy of her father, Antonio Castillo, who, as head silversmith of Los Castillo in Taxco, pioneered Mexican silver design in collaboration with William Spratling and other masters. Her work represents both continuity of heritage and bold innovation, positioning her as a central figure in contemporary Mexican decorative arts.
