About the Item

From Georges Briard, in the Ambrosia pattern, a cheese board with an attached knife, complete with storage pouch and the original box, circa 1957-1967. Ambrosia was one of the most popular of Briard’s designs. The set includes a round ceramic cheese board printed with an array of mixed fruit, a melon wedge, lemon half, and a strawberry in bright colors – yellow, red, black, and gold. The board is cork-backed. The knife has a ceramic handle colored in gold, yellow, and black, a stainless blade, attached to the board by a chain. Included is the original felt storage pouch and the original box. Georges Briard created award-winning designs for items including glasses, trays, coffeepots and dishes in materials like glass, ceramics, metal, wood, and gold-plated serveware. His serveware was especially popular from the 1950s to ’70s. It was produced by companies including Culver, Pfaltzgraff and Medina Glass and sold at high-end department stores like Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller. Briard’s designs were found in the homes of the most fashionable hosts of the mid-century. Today, they are highly prized by collectors. Box: 9 in. L x 6.5 in. W x 1 in.
