Mid-Century Modern Korina Wood Divided Serving Tray by Arthur Umanoff

About the Item

Vintage hand carved rectangular wood tray features Modernist shape and graphic wood grain patterns with the natural tonal range. The handle is wrapped with reed or cane. Minimal shape of the tray showcases the organic charm and decorative qualities of the rare Korina wood. The tray is marked with Ecole Saint Trinite Haiti sticker. The same design is documented in multiple veritable online sources as one of Arthur Umanoff pieces created for Pantalcraft studio and distributed by Raymor; the series of Modernist shaped trays was designed by Arthur Umanoff in 1960s, with different choices of wood, including Taverneau and mahogany, and slight variations in shape. The tray was acquired as a part of a collection with all pieces marked with the same stickers or the remnants of the sticker, suggesting a possibility of the pieces being distributed via fundraiser for Ecole Saint Trinite, a well-known school in Haiti, founded in 1913 and extended in 1950s to include musical education and l’Orchestre Philharmonique Sainte Trinité. The tray is in very good vintage condition; it will make a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Modernist, Transitional, Organic Modern, Collected, or Contemporary.
