About the Item

Vintage set of two hand carved, divided round wood trays features Modernist shape and graphic wood grain patterns with the natural tonal range. Graphic twin handles juxtapose the rounded, organically shaped compartments withing the divided trays. Minimal shape of the trays showcases the organic charm and decorative qualities of the rare Korina wood. The shallow tray is marked with Ecole Saint Trinite Haiti sticker; the second tray is unmarked. Similar designs are documented in multiple veritable online sources as Arthur Umanoff pieces created for Pantalcraft studio and distributed by Raymor; they are contemporary to his well-known series of Modernist shaped trays with reeded handles, designed in 1960s with different choices of wood, including Taverneau and mahogany, and slight variations in shape. The trays were acquired as a part of a collection with pieces marked with the same stickers or the remnants of the sticker, suggesting a possibility of the pieces being distributed via fundraiser for Ecole Saint Trinite, a well-known school in Haiti, founded in 1913 and extended in 1950s to include musical education and l’Orchestre Philharmonique Sainte Trinité. The trays are in very good vintage condition; they will make a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Modernist, Transitional, Organic Modern, Collected, or Contemporary.
