About the Item

Tureen and pair of candelabras by Ulla Procopé, Valencia, Arabia, Finland. This Tureen set and candle holder are part of the famous Valencia series, consisting of cups, saucers, plates, tureens, cutting boards and much more. The Valencia series is famous for its midnight blue color and Arabic-looking design (the city of Valencia was ruled by Moors in the Middle Ages). Ulla Procope (the designer of the candle holders) was responsible for a whole series of famous designs in Arabia. Ulla, who died young, at the age of 47, was the designer of the posthumous Ruska series. She began her career as a potter at the Arabia factory in 1948 and in 1951 she moved to the design department, invited by Kaj Franck.
