12 Antique Minton Hand-Painted Cabinet Plates Signed A. Holland Depicting Fish

About the Item

This set of cabinet plates were made by the renowned Minton factory of England in approximately 1900 for the Birks exclusive department store chain and done in a Victorian style. The plates are composed of bone china in a white ground with hand-painted species of fishes in their natural habitat, each signed by artist A. Holland. The central hand-painted artwork is accented with gilt banding with a Greek key motif, with finely executed foliage with raised beading. The plates are each stamped with the Minton maker's mark on the back in gold and identified as made for Henry Birks & Sons Ltd. and the species of fish portrayed on the front in block letters.
