1755 Meissen Porcelain Soup Bowl or Center Piece with Flower Decor

About the Item

This is a spectacular lidded tureen made by Meissen circa 1755. The white porcelain is decorated with multicolored flower branches and bouquet leaves. At the top of the lid there is a putto with a cornucopia filled with fruit, berries and flowers. The Meissen mark consisting of crossed swords in blue is present on the bottom. Meissen porcelain was the first European hard-paste porcelain. The production of porcelain in the royal factory at Meissen, near Dresden, started in 1710 and attracted artist and artisan to establish, the most famous porcelain manufacturer known throughout the world. Its signature logo, the crossed swords, was introduced in 1720 to protect its production; the mark of the swords is reportedly one of the oldest trademark in existence. In the 1723 the new director, Gregor Herold, introduced brilliant overgrazed colors that made Meissen porcelain famous. The production was increased by the introducing of a broad palette of colors that beginning of the classic phase of Meissen porcelain. His enamel paints are still the basis for ceramic paints today. After then was introduced by August Kotting minutely detailed landscapes and port scenes, animal, flowers, gallante courtly scenes and chinoiseries. This piece is in very good state of maintenance and it is guaranteed original in every parts. The surface was only cleaned and it is original. The lidded tureen has the Certificate of Authenticity. The documents will be shown on demand in case of interest.
