About the Item
18th-century Derby Porcelain of Jupiter,
Circa 1775-80
The Derby porcelain figure depicts the mythical figure of Jupiter. Jupiter stands on a square base with his right arm extended above his head holding a thunder bolt. while his left hand holds another down by his side. At his left side stands a large eagle in brown and yellow at his feet.
Jupiter wears a flower-decorated robe with blue cuffs and belt while a purple cloak extends around his body. On his head is a crown.
Jupiter was the Roman god of the sky and of thunder. As the chief Roman god, he was the king of a pantheon of dozens of deities, including Neptune, Mars, and Venus. The deity Jupiter was closely connected to the Greek deity Zeus.
Dimensions: 7 inches high x 4 inches wide x 2 3/4 inches deep.
