19th C Meissen Porcelain Grouping of a Mother & her Daughter at Tea-Time w/ Lace

About the Item

A 19th Century Meissen Porcelain Grouping of a Good Mother and her Daughter at Tea-Time. This finely crafted 19th-century Meissen porcelain grouping depicts an intimate scene of a mother and her daughter during tea-time. The composition features a seated woman dressed in an elaborate floral-patterned gown with lace trim, a bonnet with a delicate pink ribbon, and a sheer veil draping over her shoulders. She holds a letter in one hand while gently placing the other on her daughter's head, creating a tender moment between the two figures. The young girl, clad in a striped blue and white dress with a yellow sash, looks up adoringly at her mother while presenting a small bouquet of flowers. The scene is set on an ornate Rococo-style base adorned with scrolling gilt accents and hand-painted embellishments. The mother is seated on an upholstered chair with a tufted pink backrest framed by white and gilt moldings, adding to the richness of the composition. A small side table with curved legs stands beside her, bearing a tray with a tea set, including a teapot, cups, and saucers. The figures exhibit exceptional detailing, from the facial expressions and individually sculpted fingers to the fine lacework that mimics the texture of real fabric. The polychrome decoration is skillfully applied, enhancing the intricacy of the garments and accessories. The bottom is marked with Meissen underglaze blue crossed swords mark. Meissen porcelain, established in the early 1700s in Germany, was the first European manufacturer to produce true hard-paste porcelain, revolutionizing the industry. Under the patronage of Augustus the Strong, Meissen quickly became renowned for its superior craftsmanship, artistic innovation, and exquisite hand-painted designs. Throughout the 19th century, the company continued to produce elaborate figural groups that captured scenes of daily life, reflecting the period's taste for sentimental and refined compositions. Meissen’s legacy remains unparalleled, with its porcelain works highly sought after by collectors and institutions worldwide. Germany, Circa: 1870
