About the Item
Pair of porcelain characters realized by Jacob Petit a famous French manufacturer located in Paris. The pair represents two anthropomorphic monkeys dressed in a fancy way reminding the 18th century, the female characters featuring typical Marie-Antoinette's colors in Sevres Manufacture. The hats are removable, forming lids and each character is heavily highlighted with gold.
Each sculpture is signed with Jacob Petit's initials below in blue letters.
Jacob Mardochée (1797- 1868), well known under the name of Jacob Petit since 1816 was a famous french porcelain manufacturer, student of the french painter Antoine Gros. He was at the head of Fontainebleau manufacture before only being dedicated to ornamental porcelain. His style, very recognizable with its vivid color and its picturesque details was decried through his lifetime but is now is very valued because typical of a certain 19th-century style with wonderful know-how.
