Flame Fairyland Lustre Vase: Tree Serpent

About the Item

A tall, well-proportioned vase in Flame Fairyland Lustre, decorated with Tree Serpent pattern and Imps on a Bridge (pattern Z5360). Exhibited: Wedgwood, Master Potter to the Universe, Roche Foundation, 2023. Wedgwood's Flame Fairyland Lustre is a type of porcelain that was produced by the Wedgwood company in the 1920s. It is known for its unique glaze, which gives the pottery a iridescent, shimmering appearance. The glaze is made by applying metallic oxides to the pottery before it is fired, which creates the lustrous effect. The pottery is also known for its intricate and detailed designs, which often feature fairies and other fantasy elements. Flame Fairyland Lustre is the rarest form, using brilliant reds and organes; it is considered to be the most highly collectible and sought-after type of lustreware, of any manufacturer.
