Meissen gorgeous figurine group: Bacchanal with faun, model created by Michel Victor Acier (1770). Manufactory: Meissen. Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark (underglazed). Modeled By: Michel Victor Acier / circa 1770. First quality. Dating: Made circa 1860. Material: Porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted. Technique: handmade porcelain. Model number d 63 / former's number 86 / painter's number 2. Measures: Height: 9.25 inches. Width: 7.87 inches. Depth: 6.69 inches. Modeller: Michel Victor Acier (1736-1799). The sculptor was born at Versailles / France. He had studied Art of Sculpture in Paris and was appointed as sculptor of Meissen Porcelain Manufactory then (1762). Acier created many models in style of Rococo generally and in Watteau style specially. Finally, the sculptor became Model Master of the Saxon King in year 1780, moving to Dresden then. The model D 63 was created in year 1770. Subject: Bacchanal with faun. The figurine group is depicting a so-said Bacchanal - which was a festival being a tribute to the Greek-Roman God of Wine Dionysos / Bacchus: These so-said "Bacchanalia" were drunken or riotous celebrations in ancient times. Detailed description: The female nude is lying on ground / she supports herself on her bent left arm which is laid on a rock covered with stuff. Behind her there stands a handsome male faun clasping his hands in order to squeeze some grapes, their juice will run into a wine cup held by the female nude's right raised hand. Further there are two lovely boyish fauns visible. One of them is playing a Horn trumpet, the second one holds a Pan flute in its right hand. Behind the figurines there is a leafy tree visible. - The figurines are based on oval rocky support decorated with Rocaille ornaments as well as with leaves. This meissen figurine group is of stunning beauty / it is quite rare ! The subject of this meissen item belongs to the large meissen figurine groups of series of mythology.
