About

Meissen gorgeous figurine group: cupid being in dire straits The details are stunningly scupltured = finest modelling Manufactory: Meissen Dating: made circa 1860 Hallmarked: Meissen Mark of third quarter of 19th century (circa 1860) First quality Model number J 82 / former's number 34 / painter's number 62 Material: multicolored porcelain, glossy finish Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Rococo Modeller: Christian Gottfried Juechtzer (1789) Juechtzer was a famous sculptor and modeller of Meissen Manufactory, having been born in Meissen as son of a porcelain painter. He was active in Meissen manufactory as from the year 1769 / he had worked as apprentice first (pupil of Kaendler) / Juechtzer succeeded to M. V. Acier in year 1781 / he became supervisor / person in charge in Meissen sculptor's department around the year 1790 / finally, Juechtzer was appointed as model master in year 1794. - He specialized in creation of bisque porcelain. Specifications: The Roman Goddess Venus sits on a stool being busy with clipping Cupid's wings whereas the lovely distressed Amor cherub turns itself towards Venus' young female companion - a seated classical maiden being situated on a marble block, having broken Cupid's Arrow of Love already. Additionally, cherub's broken bow is visible on earth, too - only the quiver filled with some arrows seems to be still intact / in one piece ... Finally, two doves caressing each other sit on earth: These are symbols of LOVE. - We have to state here that Cupid / Amor has not only flawed wings, but also damaged weapons which means that Cupid of Love has lost its power totally ... This gorgeous figurine group is attached to oval base with decorative frieze. Size / measures: height: 12.59 inches width: 12.99 inches depth: 10.23 inches (= measured at base) Bibliography: Sabine & Thomas Bergmann, "Meissen - Figures", Erlangen / Germany 2014, page 139, catalogue number 267.
