Meissen Gorgeous Figurine Group: Europe Riding On Bull / The Rape Of Europe (MODEL 2697) Manufactured circa 1860 Specifications: Europa is sitting on the bull which is metamorphosed Greek God Zeus who had fallen in love with her (for this reason Zeus had prepared kidnapping which was finally successful). - Two maidens are presenting flowers to Europa / a basket filled with flowers is visible on ground. The figurines are colored in various shades. The flowers held by the maidens are excellently sculptured as well as delicately painted, too. The figurines' features are of stunning beauty, a fact which indicates the highest quality of modelling being revealed here! The figurines are based on oval support decorated with Rocaille ornaments. Size: Height  21.5 cm / 8.46 inches Width 20.0 cm / 7.87 inches Depth 11.3 cm / 4.44 inches Designer: Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1695-1749) It was believed for a long time that Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775) created this group, but recent state of research has proved that it was Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1695-1749) who had designed this wonderful Meissen figurine group in year 1748.- Eberlein was a German sculptor, having been active at Meissen manufactory since 1735 - a few years after Kaendler's start of professional career in Meissen (1731). Eberlein created in collaboration with Kaendler and Johann Gottlieb Ehder the famous SWAN SET in period of 1737-1742, consisting of more than 2200 separated parts.
