Meissen Gorgeous Group of Figurines 'Monkey Orchestra’ once created by Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775): 21 figurines and conductors stand. measures / dimensions: average height of figurines: circa 12.5 - 13.0 cm / 4.72 - 5.11 inches height of conductor's figurine: 17.0 cm 6.69 inches. Manufactory: Meissen hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark (underglazed, some figurines have unglazed bottom) FIRST QUALITY painter's numbers and former's numbers existing DATING: made circa 1840-1870 (a very few figurines are deriving from 20th century) MATERIAL: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted technique: handmade porcelain STYLE: Rococo, designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775) / first modelled before 1753 SPECIFICATIONS: One of the best known 18th century masterpieces of German Baroque Porcelain Manufacturing is the Monkey Orchestra, consisting of 21 figurines. Kaendler used the subject of monkey as parable/allegory of human qualities as well as of personal peculiarities: The Monkey Orchestra should be a reference to sense and education of free human being, far from forced training. Doubtlessly, these figurines can be seen as a representation of anti-feudal mentality of the emerging bourgeoisie. These monkeys, a whimsical and enchanting masterpiece of German Baroque art, are one of Kaendler’s most famous pieces. The complete group presented here consists of 21 figurines + conductor’s stand, including the following models: ° model 1, conductor ° model 2, bass player ° model 3, timbal carrier ° model 4, clarinettist ° model 5, trumpet player ° model 6, violinist ° model 7, female singer ° model 8, bag pipe player ° model 9, bugle blower ° model 10, female singer ° model 11, flute player ° model 12a, player with kettle drummers: (the only figurine having a slash below Meissen Mark /second quality) ° model 12b, player with triangle ° model 13, female singer ° model 14, drummer with flute ° model 15, female hurdy-gurdy player ° model 16, guitar player ° model 17, female singer ° model 18, bassoon player ° model 19, double monkey with spinet ° model 20, harp player ° model 21, conductor’s stand CONDITION: EXCELLENT ! (A very few restorations have been excellently done = not visible with naked eye.
