Museal Early Asian Lidded Tureen With Présentoir, Meissen Germany 1740-1780

About the Item

Very exceptional, museal three-part object of the 18th century: Lidded vessel on a six-sided base, widening towards the top and slightly domed at the bottom, on a stepped, low sloping stand, with small, mutually superimposed volutes as side handles, six-pointed converging lid with domed finial, crowned by a sculptural dog figure facing backwards, the lower part of the vessel and the foot decorated with ornaments in iron red, with black-framed characters or symbols in blue, iron red and yellow above, decorative bands in green, the upper rim with a meander in black, braided decorative band on the inside of the top, lid with meander band and scattered flowers, lettering symbols and symbols with bows around the lid finial. A matching porcelain présentoir was made by the Meissen manufactory in later times, around 1750, to accompany the original Asian vessel, which was created at the beginning of the 18th century or earlier: Six-sided ground plan, mirror with ornamentation in iron red matching the lower part of the vessel wall, oppositely curved fluting with decorative strip in iron red, corresponding to the base of the vessel, flag with coloured writing symbols, meander band on the upper rim, as well as decorative band with braided pattern on the underside. A unique object was created here, in which the Meissen manufactory not only orientated itself on the East Asian model, but even tried it out for itself. It fits in well with Meissen's history at the beginning of the 18th century, in which the endeavour to create independent decorations in the East Asian style resulted in a variety of patterns that are believed to be copies of Chinese and Asian models. 3 parts: tureen + lid highth: 19,0 cm / 7.48 in width: 21,0 cm / 8.26 in depth: 15,0 cm / 5.90 in présentoir: length: 29,0 cm / 11.41 in width: 21,5 cm / 8.46 in highth: 4,5 cm / 1.77 in Hand-crafted porcelain, ceramics, hand-painted, glossy finish Manufactory: Meissen, Germany for the présentoir Underglaze blue Meissen sword mark with dot 1740-1780 for the présentoir Condition: The entire set is in very good overall condition
