Pair Meissen porcelain covered and hen, c. 1920.

About the Item

A fine and large pair of Meissen porcelain figures of a cockerel and a hen, c. 1920. Originally modelled by J.J. Kaendler, the plumage finely moulded, and heightened in vibrant enamels. Both figures set upon oval mound bases, encrusted with flowering plants, and painted grass; the hen having laid an egg. Crossed swords mark in underglaze blue. Incised model numbers ‘394’ and ‘395’ to the underside of the figures. Height of cockerel – 27.5 cm, 10 5/8”. Width – 27.5 cm, 10 5/8”. Depth – 10.2 cm, 4”. Height of hen – 23 cm, 9”. Width – 19.5 cm, 7 5/8”. Depth – 10.2 cm, 4”. Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
