Samson of Paris armorial tea canister

About the Item

This hand painted and gilded tea canister is by Samson of Paris and is decorated with a faux armorial coat of arms on one side, and on the other with an expansive spray of flowers. The lid is also decorated with a floral spray. The decoration of the piece is meant to resemble Chinese export ware of over a century before. The canister stands 152 mm (6 inches) high and has a diameter at the shoulder of 110 mm (4.25 inches). The condition is very good apart from a firing crack in the rim, which was partially filled in at the factory. C1890.
