German Porcelain Owl Beer Stein with Pewter Mounts

An exceptional antique German attributed porcelain beer stein modelled as an owl and dating from the latter 19th century. The stein is of rounded bulbous shape with a large twig styled handle with oak leaf terminals and with a pewter mounted hinged cover with raised thumb rest. The stein is molded with feathered detail and relief facial features set with recessed glass eyes and small pointed beek with talons around the foot and pointed ears to the cover. The stein is finely hand painted in naturalistic colors in tones of brown and yellow with black highlights and is not marked. There is a 0.5L mark within the pattern.
