Two Spode figurines in the Chelsea style

About the Item

These two porcelain figures were part of a series issued by Copeland Spode in 1933, to celebrate the bicentenary of Josiah Spode's birth. To create this series, Spode used the original moulds from the Chelsea factory from the late 1700's, which William Copeland had bought from the Derby works in 1852. The series were marked "Chelsea Derby Copeland" (or Spode) and were hand painted. The male figurine is No. 13, "Triangles" and he stands 165 mm (6.5 inches) high on 75 mm (3 inch) wide base. The female figure is No. 12, "Tambourine", standing 183 mm (7.25 inches) high on a 75 mm (3 inch) wide base. Both pieces are in very good condition.
