About the Item

Bodil Kjaer Serving Cart For Cassina A serving cart, designed by Bodil Kjær for the modern living room, where welcoming cheer is encouraged by versatile furniture that elegantly enhances new domestic lifestyles and a quest for comfort. From the postwar period, Bodil Kjær opened up her home to a fresh new camaraderie encouraged by versatile furniture that translated the new domestic routines and a renewed need for comfort into tangible designs. With a lively social life, and to solve the problem of kitchens located far from the living room and to not miss out on serving her guests while continuing to converse with them, Kjær designed Serving Cart, a food and beverage cart in solid wood with colored center shelves and upper shelves in stainless steel. Bodil Kjær had picked up on the changes in lifestyles, between dinners eaten in front of the TV or on the patio, in homes that were becoming smaller and smaller. Not by chance, Serving Cart can be tucked away under the table when not in use, or kept out, like a small, elegant architectural accessory Structure of drawer and removable dividers · In solid Canaletto walnut with natural finish, ash with stained oak finish or stained black with low-gloss finish. Intermediate shelves · In colored Compact HPL (High Pressure Laminate). Upper shelves · In brushed stainless-steel sheet bonded to black MDF. Wheels · In metal painted matte black with black rubber tread. Optional accessories · In brushed stainless steel. · Hanging stemware rack with 3 slots (6-12 stem glasses). · Bottle holder with 6 compartments (3 wine and 3 champagne). · Glassware tray with 3 compartments (6-12 glasses). She was educated in Denmark, England and the USA, and practised as an architect, designer and planner from her own offices in Copenhagen and London. Between 1955 and 1963, while designing public interiors she developed a series of elements of architecture to solve problems of functional and aesthetic nature. These pieces of furniture, lamps and glass were not designed directly for production but, as other architects discovered them and wanted them for their buildings, they were put into production and marketed in the USA as well as in Europe. Some of these pieces are still available, mostly at auctions, and the Office Desk, today produced by Karakter, can also be seen in three early Bond movies and in recent British films and television series. Bodil Kjær has now returned to Denmark and lives on the east coast of Jutland where she continues to teach, research and participate in the development of the city of Aarhus. About The Manufacturer: Established in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda, Italy, Cassina launched industrial design in Italy in the 1950s, based on a totally innovative approach that marked the transition from artisan production to mass production. With a mindset focused on research and innovation, Cassina combines technology and long-standing artisan craftsmanship. Memory, research, innovation. Cassina blends traditional skills and superior productivity, meticulous attention to detail and passion, uniqueness and experimentation, wellbeing and sustainability. Today, the company continues to address new lifestyles with the creation of complete, harmonious interior decor solutions that embody the best contemporary design for all areas of the home.
