About the Item

An exceptional antique Austian hand-painted porcelain chocolate pot and stand by the renowned Vienna factory and dating from the 19th century. This exquisite set combines a rounded purpose made stand with a central raised support for the chocolate pot. The stand is hand decorated with an ornate series of panels repeated around the rim and hand painted in colored enamels with exceptionally fine gilded decoration the raised centre sits above a key pattern border in raised gilding on a rich mauve ground with patterned gilded leaf designs to the centre. The elegantly shaped chocolate pot stands on a narrow round pedestal shaped foot with a cup shaped body decorated with hand painted panels in typical Vienna style to either side and set within richly decorated gilded patterned borders above a rich mauve border decorated with fine leaves. A similar decoration is applied around the top of the body with a molded and gilded spout to one side and a raised loop handle also gilded to the other. A domed molded and similarly patterned cover sits within a top recess. The body of the teapot is painted with two scenes, one titled SHAKESPEARE’S GEBURT and the other AMOR U GRAZIEN. Both the pedestal and pot have underglaze blue makers shield marks, the pot with the additional titling of the painted panels in red. An exceptional and rare collector’s item. In good condition with gilding rubbing to the raised element of the stand where the pot sits and light wear to the gilded edge. Rubbing to the inside top edge from the cover.
