About the Item

Adie Brothers antique Silver Plate salt cellars with hinged tops and original cobalt glass liners. In the Rococo style with lion paw feet, delicate finials, rocaille motifs, scrolling patterns, and naturalistic designs inspired by plants and flowers. Marked with A hallmark and EPNS A.l. / 7 for Adie Brothers Ltd, Birmingham, England. The esteemed firm of Adie Brothers Ltd was incorporated in 1906 joining the firms of McKewan & Adie (manufacturing jewellers, gold and silversmiths) and E.S. Barnsley & Co (box and packing case makers). The firm was controlled by Percy Adie until WWII and afterwards by Tony Adie and Frank Taylor. In the 1960s the business became part of British Silverware and sadly closed in 1968. Circa 1922.
