About the Item
Antique silver on copper teapot by Theodore B. Starr made in the USA, end of the 19th century.
Theodore B. Starr was a company of silversmiths founded in New York in 1862 by Theodore Starr. In 1864, he was joined by Herman Marcus, and the company became known as Starr and Marcus. Marcus left to join Tiffany's in 1877, and Starr bought back control of the company, with the name of the company becoming Theodore B. Starr. The company was incorporated in 1907 by Starr's son, before being bought in 1918 by Reed and Barton, a silver firm, and finally closing in 1923.
The antique silver teapot has the original manufacturer's label.
The lid doesn't fit snugly.

Antique silver plated creamer by Elkington & Co made in the United Kingdom in the 1880s.
Elkington & Co are one of the most important names in English Silver and Silver Plate. Elkington started in Birmingham in 1836, and experimented with innovative gilding techniques. By 1838 they had discovered and patented a new way to electroplate one metal on to the surface of another. By 1840 production was already underway with silver electroplated wares. The company received financial backing from Josiah Mason in 1842 (renaming the firm Elkington, Mason & Co between 1842 and 1861) and was extremely successful. It introduced electrotyping as a new method of production for silver plated items. Elkington & Co exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 with enormous success. Elkington held Royal Warrants for Queen Victoria, King Edward VI, King George V, King Edward VIII and King George VI. The Elkington & Co. name is still in use today as manufacturers under the auspices of British Silverware Ltd.
