About the Item

Mid-Century Mexican Silverplate and Malachite Parrot Pitcher in the Style of Los Castillo, Mexico, Circa 1970s A charming and sculptural mid-century Mexican silverplate pitcher in the iconic Taxco tradition, attributed to the school of Los Castillo. Standing 4.5 inches high by 5 inches wide and 2.35 inches deep, this whimsical piece takes the form of a stylized parrot perched on the rim, its head cleverly doubling as the handle. The body is bulbous and richly textured with a repoussé pattern of circular impressions, providing a tactile, jewel-like surface. The parrot’s body is crafted with deeply inset carved green stone—likely malachite or dyed onyx—outlined in fine silver-toned bezels. Its beak is cast with stamped geometric detail and subtle stylization, adding to the piece’s playful character and visual appeal. This pitcher reflects the bold artistry and material inventiveness of the mid-century silver workshops in Taxco, Mexico. While unsigned, the form, technique, and whimsical animal motif are directly inspired by Los Castillo’s renowned work during the postwar era, when the studio was at the forefront of Mexican Modernism. A delightful accent piece, this pitcher may be used decoratively or functionally for serving small quantities of cream or syrup. Ideal for collectors of mid-century silver, Taxco metalwork, or unique animal-themed design objects. Condition: Excellent vintage condition with minimal wear. No significant losses or damage to the stone or silverplate finish. Provenance: Private collection, Palm Beach
