A 20th Century Dedicated Silver Yad
About the Item
This 20th-century silver Yad is an exceptional example of fine Judaica craftsmanship, featuring an intricate and elegant design. The tapering handle is adorned with a series of fluted, overlapping bracers, each embellished with delicate beadwork, creating a striking visual rhythm. The handle gracefully culminates in a sphere with a ruffled design, from which emerges a finely sculpted pointing hand, a traditional feature used to follow the Torah text during readings.
The upper portion of the Yad is marked by a large, rounded sphere with exquisite floral patterns adorning one side. On the opposite side, a prominent cartouche bears a Hebrew dedication to a Bar Mitzvah boy named Aharon, making this Yad not only a ritual object but also a deeply personal and commemorative piece.
Above the sphere, the design transitions into a spool-like form, flanked by two finely detailed rampant lions—symbolic of strength and heritage. Crowning this remarkable piece is an ornate imperial crown, enriched with delicate floral arches, enhancing the regal and sacred character of the Yad.

Located in New York, NY
A Silver Modern Dreidel made in the 20th Century.
This Silver modern Dreidel is uncommonly made. The sides of the dreidel are square and it has the Hebrew letters Nun, Gimmel, Hey, and Shin prominently displayed but that's where the commonality stops. The top handle is long and cylindrical and the bottom point where the dreidel spins is very similar. We have seen this design on some bone dreidels.
The top is slightly tilted upwards and has designs that resemble spherical beads encircled by filigree which are common on some Israeli Kiddush goblets.
Even the letters which are the smae as most dreidels yet have unique designs. The Gimmel is crowned with an eight-branch Menorah, the Nun is placed within an oil pourer...

1830s Russian Silver Torah Pointer/Yad
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Russian silver Torah pointer/yad; an addition to our Judaica silverware collection
This exceptional antique 19th century Russian silver Torah pointer/yad has a knopped tapering cylindrical form.
The bulbous knops are each plain and unembellished.
The plain tapering handpiece is embellished with applied interlacing designs to the upper portion.
The shaft of this silver Torah pointer has a stranded twist design, to an undulating circular collar style knop.
This lower knop terminates with an impressive hand, with its index finger pointed.
The hallmarks struck to the handpiece of this exceptional silver Torah pointer include:
Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks*)
City Mark: Moscow, Russia
Maker's mark: ФВ (untraced)
Such original Russian examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate; due to their formation they do not stand the test of time.
* 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver
NOTE: The Hebrew word yad (יד) translates to "hand" and is used while reading the Torah. The yad ensures that an impure hand does not touch the fragile parchment; issues also arise when ink does not absorb to the velum and there can be damage to the wording.
