About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive composite pair of antique George IV English sterling silver creamer and sugar bowl; an addition to our antique teaware collection.
This fine composite pair of antique George IV English sterling silver sugar bowl and cream jug has an oval rounded form; the creamer has elements of a helmet shaped form.
The body of each component is encircled with embossed convex ribbed decoration to either side of a band of bright cut engraved ornamentation alternating between a floral, foliate and acorn design and star motif.
The surface of each is further embellished with fine bands of pin struck decorated borders which, to the lower portions, trace the embossed decoration.
The decoration to the lower portion of each incorporates two bright cut engraved bordered vacant oval cartouches.
The cream jug and sugar bowl are fitted with angular sterling silver handles ornamented with a plain thumb piece.
Each piece is supported by four fine and impressive Regency style feet.
These fine examples of antique silverware retain the original gilded interior.
The creamer was made by Naphthali Hart in 1825 and the sugar bowl was crafted in 1829 by Richard Pierce & George Burrows; they are crafted in the same design as an exact pair.
Condition
The pieces of this antique cream and sugar set are a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece are all clear in keeping with age and location.
