An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique Victorian English cast sterling silver peppers in the form of squirrels; an addition to our silver cruets / condiments collection These exceptional and rare antique Victorian English cast sterling silver peppers are realistically modelled in the form of squirrels eating nuts. Each piece is ornamented with details reproducing the squirrel's fur and anatomical features. The decoration to each squirrel incorporates an array of pierced 'pepper' holes to the upper portion. The underside of each piece is fitted with a hinged hallmarked push fit cover. The base of each pepperette bears the retailer's mark 'Jones 21 St James's St & 23 B Des Capucine, Paris'. These exceptional rare sterling silver squirrel peppers are the finest quality of their type you could hope to acquire. Condition These antique rare sterling silver squirrel peppers are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks to the surface of each squirrel's feet, and part hallmarks to the cover are very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of antique silverware. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver novelty pepper has a plain ovoid shaped form. The body of the pepper is embellished with impressive chased decoration depicting a cracked egg shell with a boy’s face and hands to the anterior surface and his feet and buttocks to the reverse.
