About the Item

Anton Michelsen Danish Silver Bowl made by the A. Michelsen works and assayed by Christian F. Heise. Anton Michelsen, 1809-1877, was a Danish Silver Pioneer and goldsmith, and he founded the A. Michelsen company in Copenhagen in 1841. Later on, in 1849, Anton Michelsen became Royal Appointed Jeweller. His designs have classicist traits as well as new Rococo. Also, Anton Michelsen was inspired by national Danish traits such as old norse, Renaissance, and Viking age styles. He is widely considered one of the most renowned Danish silversmiths. Anton Michelsen’s son, Carl Michelsen (1853-1921), took over his father’s company and made it the leading gold and silversmith company in Denmark. Today, the A. Michelsen Company is part of Georg Jensen silversmiths Itd. In 1975 the two companies was joined under the same management.
