About the Item
Geometric modernist candle holders designed by Damian Garrido.
A beautiful sculptural piece, created in Madrid Spain in the silversmith workshop of Damián Garrido, back in 2002. This architectural pair of modernist chandeliers was carefully crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver, with a high polish finish. These pieces are part of the "Figure" collection designed by the second generation of Garrido, Juan & Paloma Garrido. Each piece was individually built with modernist patterns, geometric shape and very clean lines.
Edition: This suite of two pieces is the number 4 of a limited authorized edition of 12.
Measurements: 400 mm by 197 mm by 140 mm (15.75 x 7.75 x 5.51 Inches). Can be displayed together as a single piece or individual.
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the Spanish control mark for the assay of the silver, the edition number and signed, "DAMIAN GARRIDO 4/12 STERLING SILVER".
Damian Garrido, born in Spain in 1931. He completed his training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid, and by nineteen had become a master in his field. Countless hours would be spent from then onwards to the study of works from past centuries, which would soon inspire intricate works of his own. He was attracted to works from very different periods and origins, but he wanted and knew how to make interpretations of all of them that implied variations with respect to their original models. Among other pieces and craftsmen we can mention the Italian, German and Dutch ewer sets from the 16th century, the German virginal cups from the 16th and 17th centuries; the jugs with a basin from the beginning of the French rococo or following the English Paul Storr; the games of ewer in the line of Auguste U Odiot and within the Hispanic, mancerinas, candlesticks from Cordoba, navetas from Compostela and neoclassical clerks from Antonio Martínez. But these are just a few examples cited almost at random and from memory, since the catalog of what Garrido has done is vast and impossible to limit in a few short lines.
As a result of his son and daughter, Juan and Paloma Garrido, joining the firm in 1985, Damián introduced a new line of work based on original designs. This change of direction favored and inspired by his descendants as marked by traditional custom would grant his artistic trajectory its definitive impulse, giving rise to the novel contemporary collection, which would occupy the artist during the last years of his life. Since then, Juan and Paloma have gradually enhanced this collection with new high-quality pieces of decorative art. At present their designs can be admired at the most prestigious jewellers, art galleries and silverware collections, both in Spain and abroad, as well as in those of numerous private and public institutions. (With thanks from Damian Garrido).
