About the Item

A very handsome and fine pair of early George III sterling silver sauce boats, their spot hammered bellied bodies rising to wavy rims, both their fronts engraved with a Mural Crown, indicating a person of civic heraldry. Both fitted with foliate cast, flying 'C' scrolled handles with acanthus leaf shaped thumbpieces, raised overall on applied shell shaped knees descending to graceful cabriole supports atop pad feet. Their undersides bearing London hallmarks with date letter for 1762 and partially rubbed makers marks for listed London silversmith John Swift. Dimensions, 4.5" high x 7" long x 3.75" wide. Combined weight, 400 grams or 12.86 troy ounces. Both remain in very good overall condition, and are priced competitively in comparison to similar pairs in the marketplace. (Given their more than ample sized bodies, these fine sauce boats could also easily double as gravy boats).
