About the Item

George III Sterling silver wine decanter label or bottle ticket as it is referred to in England. Hand wrought by silversmith Margaret Binley maker of decanter labels, London, 1765-1790. Mountain was a sweet dessert wine from the area of Malaga, Spain and served as a predecessor to Sherry. The face of the label is boldly stamped with “MOUNTAIN”. The makers hallmarks are stamped on the reverse along with a lion rampant, the hallmark for the sterling silver standard of Great Britain. The decanter label has a slight convex shape with a deep incised border along with a feather edge. 1 7/8” x 1"
