$1,800

About the Item

J. E. Caldwell sterling silver pitcher in exquisite Art Nouveau style with dimensional anemones around the body and an applied handle. It measures 9 1/4'' in height by 8 1/4'' from handle to spout by 4 1/2'' in width, weighs 23 ozt, and bears hallmarks as shown. J.E. Caldwell & Co. was a major jewellery retailer and one-time silversmith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The firm experienced rapid growth from the start, and repeated enlargements and removals were made necessary from time to time to gain the greater facilities demanded. In 1843, James Caldwell entered in partnership with Bennett, acting under the name Bennett & Caldwell. Caldwell acquired a national reputation through its silver services presented to battleships and cruisers of the US Navy. It exhibited at The Centennial Exposition in 1876, representing the American Jewelry Maker. We hand polish all items before shipping them out, but if there is interest for a professional polishing and/or engraving removal, we can take care of that for an additional charge and with delayed shipping.
