About the Item

Creamer in sterling silver hand hammered by Rey Urban, Stockholm 1970 signed ans stamped A pair available, price for 1 item Good condition Rey Urban, born 14 September 1929 in Stockholm, Sweden, died 8 February 2015, was a Swedish silversmith and designer. Urban began his studies at the metalwork department of the Konstfackskolan in 1947 and graduated from the school's upper department in 1951, followed by a number of study trips to France, Germany, Brazil and England. He was employed by the corpus manufacturer Chor in Denmark, but worked mainly in his own company, Silversmeden Rey Urban, which he started during his training in 1950. He received his journeyman's certificate in 1953 and master silversmith's certificate in 1955[1]. Together with Claës E. Giertta, he exhibited at Hantverkshuset in Stockholm and with Lars Fleming at Kalmar Museum. He participated almost annually in handicraft exhibitions at Hantverkshuset in Stockholm and was represented in handicraft exhibitions in Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki, New York, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Urban created both practical and useful jewellery as well as tightly designed ornamental objects. Urban's designs combined craftsmanship with contemporary techniques. His uncompromising work includes candelabra and other silver objects for some 15 churches in Sweden. Urban is represented at the National Museum in Stockholm, among other places.
