Ten Sterling Silver Thimbles, an Amazing Start of a Fantastic Collection

About the Item

10 excellent thimbles, all are English except Nos. 2 & 10, made in the USA. All are from a very large collection that I bought several years ago. Most of the later ones - 1978 onwards will have been bought, as new, through the Thimble Collector`s Club. The main and second picture show all ten, in numbered order, from the left. The next ten pictures show each thimble individually, in the same order. Any questions, I`ll be pleased to answer. We are David and Valerie - silver dealers for the past 50 years, with an abundance of knowledge we are happy to depart. 1. Ladybird and Flowers - a modern thimble, circa 1990, made in England, and marked 925, the sterling silver guarantee. 2. Plain band - made by Simons Brothers in the USA, and dates to about 1880. 3. Band of Flowers - hallmarked for London 1978 and with the maker`s mark VN which is the importer`s mark for Thai Design Distributors Ltd., 4. Dorcas - this thimble is a patented, silver cased ( with a steel core). With the maker`s mark CH for Charles Horner of Halifax England. 5. Half Flowers - Marked STERLING SILVER, and dates to about 1920. The maker`s mark is H.G & S, for Henry Griffith & Son. 6. Leaves on a matt background - hallmarked for Birmingham 1983. The maker`s mark - W.H.M, for W.H. Manton Ltd., Pittsford Street, Birmingham. 7. Very small Child`s Thimble - marked - MADE IN ENGLAND STERLING SILVER Dates to about 1920. 8. Advertising Thimble - ANDREWS LIVER SALT, hallmarked for Birmingham 1926. Maker`s mark - N.G.Co., for Northern Goldsmiths Company, Blackett Street, Newcastle upon Tyne. Exceptionally rare to get a Newcastle hallmark. 9. Commemorative Thimble - marked Dublin 1991, in celebration of Dublin being crowned the European City of Culture. Hallmarked for Dublin 1991, with the maker`s mark A&M, for Alwright & Marshall Ltd., Fade St. Dublin. 10. Half Bands - marked inside with a shield for Simons Brothers of the USA, and stamped STERLING SILVER.
